Tenth Birthday for J.P. Morgan’s centre of excellence in Glasgow

This summer, J.P. Morgan’s European Technology Centre (ETC) in the IFSD celebrates its tenth anniversary.

As the 20th century drew to a close, J.P. Morgan searched Europe, considering more than 30 locations for a regional technology centre. With operating costs around 40% less than London and a substantial talent pool, Glasgow was the logical choice.

The vision was “to be a world class software organisation” and the ETC has indeed become an important presence in the city and the Scottish economy, becoming the largest IT development operation outside of RBS and HBOS.

Winning numerous awards, the ETC has prided itself on its commitment to diversity, excellence in people and talent development, with a particular focus on developing graduates from local universities. Since 1999, over 150 graduates have joined through local partnerships.

Significant contribution has also been made to the Glasgow community through a range of fundraising and philanthropic initiatives, with particular emphasis on increasing computer literacy and the understanding of technology in the workplace.

Paul Murphy, Site Director, believes the ETC is a strategic IT centre for the organisation. He said, “Its proven track record and cost effectiveness make it an integral part of the firm’s global technology footprint”.
