New Job Opportunities Attract Thousands

The city’s historic Central Hotel open recruitment day attracted thousands of people, all hoping to land a position at the iconic hotel.

The Central is currently undergoing a £20m refurbishment to restore it to its former glory and will reopen in September 2010 as The Grand Central Hotel. The investment has created 150 vacancies in conference and banqueting, reservations, front of house, maintenance, reception, kitchen, events and finance with a mix of full and part time positions available.

The recruitment open day, held at the Teacher Building in St Enoch Square, attracted thousands of hospitality professionals and those looking to break into the industry.

General manager of the Grand Central Hotel, Laurie Nicol, said: “Within the first two hours we had interviewed 300 people and were very impressed by the calibre of candidates.  We want staff that love Glasgow and are passionate about providing the very best service.”

The Grand Central Hotel will offer 186 fully refurbished bedrooms, 21 meeting rooms including a stunning ballroom called the Grand Room of Glasgow with a capacity for 500 guests, a lavish champagne bar overlooking Central Station’s concourse and a new bar, restaurant and deli.
