Transport
Glasgow is a major UK transport hub with Scotland’s busiest airport, its connections are excellent by UK standards, with high metro levels of transport use especially via peak flows to and from the city centre.
Recent years have seen major improvements in air, rail, road and bus transport. Glasgow is served by two international airports, with a third only 45 minutes away in Edinburgh.
Connectivity
With easy access to three international airports:
- Glasgow has a one hour flight time to London
- Around 50 flights per day link Glasgow to London
- Glasgow services more than 80 worldwide destinations
- Glasgow International Airport is only 15 minutes away from the city centre
- Prestwick and Edinburgh International Airports are only 45 minutes from the city centre
- Glasgow International Airport is being expanded to include another £12 million terminal
With the largest integrated suburban rail network outside of London:
- Glasgow has its own rapid Subway system
- Two main stations, Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street
- A 45 minute rail journey to Edinburgh with services running every 15 minutes
- A dedicated rail link from Glasgow to Prestwick International Airport.
With four main motorways, Glasgow is at the hub of Scotland’s road system:
- The M8 runs through the city centre and connects with Glasgow and Edinburgh International Airport
- The M74 leads south directly onto the M6 in England
- The M80 leads to the north linking with the M9/M90
- The M77 links to Ayrshire and Prestwick International Airport
First Glasgow is the main operator of bus services in the city. The over-ground network offers simple routes and interchange points allow passengers to connect with First servicesFrequent service, with buses every 10 minutes during the daytime and eight 24-hour services.
