Gavin Park

Former IFSD Student of the Year award winner Gavin Park reflects on his experience to date in the financial sector and the satisfaction he derives from helping to improve people’s lives.

I work as a Senior Planner in the Scottish Regional Office of 1825 Financial Planning. My role involves supporting a number of individual and corporate clients with their future plans and the organisation of their finances. Having the opportunity to work with clients and colleagues from many different backgrounds and a range of businesses throughout the country means my day to day job has plenty of variety.

After studying at Glasgow Caledonian University, where I achieved a first class BA (Hons) degree in Finance, Investment and Risk, I started working with the Munro Partnership Ltd via their Graduate Programme before being appointed as a financial planner in 2011. Since I won the IFSD Student Award in 2010, Munro Partnership Ltd was acquired by 1825 (the financial planning arm of Standard Life) where I became a senior planner  and have been involved in a number of different areas of development.

The acquisition has been a very interesting process and we have much greater capacity to support our clients with a range of financial services, including specialist advice on tax planning and trusts.

In my career to date, I was very proud to become a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society when I was 25, having completed my Advanced Financial Planning Certificate. In terms of my day to day job, my main sense of achievement has been supporting clients through a number of challenging times where the process followed really made a difference to their finances and their lives. Working with clients through the good times, and the bad times, means that I meet people at different stages in their lives and have an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to help them achieve their goals.

I'm based in West George Street and find Glasgow a great city to work in. My favourite things about having an office in the city is the shared enthusiasm from companies to provide great services and the range of venues that are available for both business and social events….plus the vast choice of restaurants for eating!
