Speaking to an audience of over 600 business leaders at the
17th annual State
of the City Economy Conference in Glasgow, Councillor Gordon
Matheson, Leader of Glasgow City Council underlined the
city's achievements in 2014 and described them as a 'base camp' for
further progress in 2015 and beyond.
Councillor Matheson said: "This has been a landmark year in
Glasgow's history, and provides a fantastic point from which to
look to the future and how we can all shape - and benefit from - a
prosperous Glasgow".
The conference - sponsored by BT - took place at the Radisson
Blu Hotel, and featured Gordon Brown MP, former Prime Minister and
Chancellor of the Exchequer, as the keynote speaker, as well as
Mark Harrop, BT Group Director, Wireless Cities, Devices, Mobility
and Innovation.
A range of announcements by Councillor Matheson included
continued funding until 2017/18 of the Glasgow
Commonwealth Guarantee - which has created over 5,400 jobs and
apprenticeships for Glaswegians over the past five years.
The State of the City Economy conference, is the biggest such
event in Glasgow's calendar, providing a platform to examine
Glasgow's recent economic progress and consider policies that will
meet the city's economic challenges.
