Jim Galbraith, Chief Executive of Glasgow based
Scottish Friendly, has been named Director of the Year - Large
Business in the annual Director of the Year Awards organised by the
Institute of Directors (IOD) in Scotland.
Raymond O'Hare, the judging panel's chair said, "Jim
Galbraith leads a very strong business with a track record of
sustainable and profitable growth. The business has been
revitalised through robust leadership and governance - a culture
set at the top. Jim is a leader with impressive focus, purpose and
ambition and is ensuring that he is building the right skill set to
grow and enhance a well-known brand in a responsible and profitable
way. The business looks well-placed to take on future challenges in
a changing market".
In May 2020, Scottish Friendly, which is Scotland's largest
financial mutual, reported record sales from savings and
investments, an increase of 12% to £13.5m in 2019. Funds under
management increased by over 80% to £5.3 billion and the number of
members reached a record high of 712,000.
IOD Scotland described this year's online awards ceremony as 'a
celebration of leadership, talent, success and achievement'. From
