Pupils from Glasgow, East and West Dunbartonshire are set to
benefit from a new Foundation Apprenticeship in Financial Services,
launched by the Financial and Business Services Workstream of
Glasgow Economic Leadership.
From August 2015, more than 20 pupils will enrol on the
Foundation Apprenticeship, developed by a strategic partnership
involving
City of Glasgow College and
Skills Development Scotland. It is modelled on the
existing Modern Apprenticeship in Financial Services and offers
pupils in S5 and S6 the opportunity to complete elements of a
Modern Apprenticeship, gain industry recognised qualifications and
work experience, alongside Highers and Advanced Highers and
hopefully kickstart their careers in Financial Services.
Neville Prentice, Skills Development Scotland said, "The
expansion of Foundation Apprenticeships will play a major role in
tackling youth unemployment and ensuring young people have the
education, skills and work experience they need, and employers
want.
Through strategic partnerships with City of Glasgow College and
by working with local schools, employers, pupils and parents, we
plan to create many more Foundation Apprentices and enhance
Glasgow's reputation as a world-class financial centre".
