Plans Submitted For £70m Scheme

26 Oct 2016

Detailed plans for the £70m regeneration of a site on the north east corner of George Square have been submitted to Glasgow City Council this month.

Led by the Chris Stewart Group (CSG), the rejuvenation of the 35,000 sq ft site, known as the George Street Complex, includes the renovation of two listed buildings for 43 five star serviced apartments and commercial offices and the construction of a new 258 bed hotel and 272 bed student accommodation, as well as attractive public amenity spaces.

The plans include a pedestrianised lane and plaza featuring restaurants, bars and cafes, alongside independent boutiques and specialist fashion-to-foodie shops.  The development is expected to support around 320 jobs.

Chris Stewart, CEO, CSG, said, "We were delighted to be chosen as the preferred developer by City Property (Glasgow) and Glasgow City Council for this important strategic site. We have been working closely with GCC and other stakeholders for almost a year to ensure our proposals and vision for the site match with the city's aspirations for high quality mixed use development."
