Financial knowledge, quick decision making and good teamwork
helped Bishopbriggs Academy win the regional final of a competition
challenging pupils to show their investment skills.
The East Dunbartonshire school was the winner of the Investment
Challenge West Region, where S5 and S6 pupils worked in teams to
grow a virtual investment fund, making decisions on what to buy and
sell, based on their research and incoming news stories.
The competition is sponsored by BNP Paribas Securities Services,
in partnership with Skills Development Scotland (SDS) and Global
Investor Simulations.
Six schools beat 39 others to reach regional finals hosted by
BNP Paribas at their offices in Glasgow's IFSD and Dundee. Pupils
pitted their investment wits against each other, whilst also
hearing more about careers in the financial services industry.
Bishopbriggs Academy won in the West region, beating Boclair
Academy, Bearsden and Clydeview Academy, Gourock.
Mark Daisley, Head of UK Operations, Investment and Fund
Services, BNP Paribas Securities Services, said: "BNP Paribas is
focused on forging and maintaining strong links with local schools
and communities. The Investment Challenge helps us develop those
links and offers real benefits to young people as they explore
their career options."
