In Glasgow, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority's take
up of 30,000 sq ft at Alexander Bain House, fronting on to the
River Clyde, makes it the first government department to relocate
to the city since the downturn, and a major coup for the IFSD.
The story is covered in GVA's The Big Nine
quarterly review of the regional office occupier market, which
shows the continuation of the 2013 upward trend across nine major
city centres.
Alison Taylor, Director of National Markets for GVA James Barr,
welcomed the strong rebound as sign that markets in Glasgow and
Edinburgh are thriving and continuing to push ahead.
"It's good to see city centre take-up in these two Scottish
cities ahead of the vast majority of the UK regional centres in the
past quarter. This illustrates a marked improvement in confidence
and business sentiment among office occupiers in the past 12
months. Predictions of a shortage of prime Grade A stock are
fast becoming a reality, with strong occupier interest in all
existing Grade A stock in the city centre and serious pre-letting
enquiries for the three new developments on-site in Glasgow."
Further proposals are expected to be announced shortly in the
city.
