IFSDG:  What is the vision for MBN Solutions in Glasgow?

Alan: My vision is to make MBN Solutions one of the top places to work for our staff and to create a culture of collaboration and openness that will help scale the business and support our clients.

IFSDG:  What's a typical day for you?


Overseeing the smooth running of MBN's back office support to the business.Advising the MBN Leadership team on all people-related matters

Advancing working practices and processes that will help the MBN business continue to grow whilst meeting our clients needs and our legal obligations

Working with my team and colleagues to grow the skills and talent we have in the business

Having fun and enjoying everything I do!

IFSDG:  Why did MBN Solutions choose to locate in the IFSD in Glasgow?

Alan: We are an established Glasgow business and it's a really exciting time to be in the city with growing investment and interest in our areas of expertise. There's no other place we would want to be.

IFSDG: Three good things about working in Glasgow?


The Vibe: Glasgow is an amazing and vibrant city, being around the hustle and bustle is great for me, I like to feel connected to the world

The People: The saying, 'People Make Glasgow' couldn't be more accurate, the fabric of the city is built on the rich and diverse people in the city, this brings with it unpredictably and I like to have difference in my day

The Food: I love my food and the city has so many diverse places to eat now.

IFSDG:  What is your biggest business achievement to date?

Alan: I implemented an HR Shared Service in a previous role, from design to implementation. Deploying people and technology to bring a higher level of support to the business through the Shared Services model and facilitating the growth of my talented team in the process stands as my biggest achievement and the one I take most pride in.

IFSDG:  What is the best investment you ever made?

Alan: Going to University, it was the first decision I made to truly invest in myself and it payed dividends as I got a first class honours & a masters degree which paved the way for me to build my career.

IFSDG:  Which businessperson or company do you most admire and why?

Alan: Barclays: That was the place I first cut my teeth in the world of business, it will always be a special company for me because it taught me the value of stewardship and innovation in everything that I do in work.

IFSDG:  What did you want to be when you were a child?

Alan: Footballer

IFSDG: What do you do to relax away from the office?

Alan: Sports, mainly the gym and football when time allows it.  Music, playing guitar and jamming with friends and spending time with the family

Alan: Neil Young and many others, hardest question on the list
