IFSDG: How long have you worked in Alexander
Sloan?
Allison: I have worked for Alexander
Sloan for 18 years, starting as a CA Trainee and progressing
through the Firm in roles of Supervisor, Manager and being
appointed Partner in 2013 and Senior Partner in December 2017.
IFSDG: How many people work at Alexander
Sloan?
Allison: We employ 50 people, split
between our 2 City Centre offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
IFSDG: What is the vision for Alexander Sloan in
Glasgow?
Allison: We are committed to being a
successful organisation. We define success as delivering value to
The Partnership, our staff and our clients. We want to have a firm
that our Partners and staff are proud to be a part of, that enables
our staff to fulfil their potential and, importantly, provides
excellent service for our clients in the role of trusted
advisor.
IFSDG: What's a typical day for you?
Allison: There is no typical day! That is
the most interesting and challenging aspect of my role. One day I
could be out at a client premises advising on their growth plans or
aspects of governance, the next I could be interviewing new
graduates to join our team.
IFSDG: Why did Alexander Sloan choose to locate in
the IFSD in Glasgow?
Allison: Glasgow has an excellent pool of
talent and resource. It is also easily accessible for visiting
clients and for staff. We have a long history in the City Centre,
having recently celebrated our 150th anniversary.
IFSDG: Three good things about working in
Glasgow?
Allison: Business culture and network,
the people and transport links.
IFSDG: What is your biggest business achievement
to date?
Allison: Contribution to the growth and
development of Alexander Sloan and being appointed the youngest
Senior Partner in the Firm's proud 150-year history.
IFSDG: What is the best investment you ever
made?
Allison: I am a big believer in promoting
a healthy work-life balance so the value of time invested in family
holidays cannot be underestimated.
IFSDG: Which businessperson or company do you most
admire and why?
Allison: In my role I am lucky to work
with many amazing companies, and in particular a number of Scottish
charities, the Boards and Senior Management Teams of which are
inspiring, being challenged to find innovative ways of working with
sometimes very limited resource. I enjoy being able to
contribute to these organisations as an advisor.
IFSDG: What did you want to be when you were a
child?
Allison: A primary school teacher.
IFSDG: What do you do to relax away from the
office?

friends.
