Anna Brown

Apprentice, KPMG LLP

IFSDG:  How long have you worked in KPMG?

Anna:  I've worked for KPMG for 7 months.

IFSDG:  How many people work at KPMG?

Anna:  KPMG operates in 156 countries worldwide, employing over 150,000 people. Within  the UK, KPMG has 22 offices and over 11,000 employees. The Glasgow office currently has over 500 staff working in the city centre.

IFSDG:  What opportunities are there for school leavers in Glasgow with KPMG?

Anna:  Within KPMG, there are some fantastic opportunities for current school leavers  looking for an alternative path to university and college.

I am currently on KPMG360°, a rotational programme allowing me to gain an insight into audit, tax and advisory services over four years, whilst working towards a technician level qualification. After that I will choose my specialism and go on to study for my professional qualification. This means I will potentially be at assistant manager level in six years which is a really exciting, fantastic opportunity.

There is also the Audit School and College Leaver Programme for students looking to gain a degree in Accountancy and work at KPMG - this allows students to gain business experience and work whilst studying; getting the best of both worlds, being paid a salary and getting to enjoy half your year as a student.

Finally, for those still at school and currently in S5 there is the KPMG Discovery Programme, an insight programme offering a 3-day work experience opportunity over the summer in our Glasgow office (where I work!).

IFSDG:  What's a typical day for you?

Anna:   I often assist my team with a variety of clients, so no two days are really the same! Some of the work I've been involved in previously is; calling HMRC on behalf of clients, replying to client queries, taking notes from client calls and writing reports for clients. Despite being an apprentice, I was thrown straight into the deep end when I started and I'm always involved in a lot of client work.

IFSDG:  Three good things about working in Glasgow?

Anna:  It's great how central everything is, everyone is really friendly and it's a really nice city!

IFSDG:  What is your biggest business achievement to date?

Anna:  Drafting a reply to a client regarding a technical query, which was checked by an assistant manager and sent out with no changes made.

IFSDG:  What did you want to be when you were a child?

Anna:  I think I thought about every career under the sun before I finally studied accounting at high school and decided it was for me.

IFSDG:  What do you do to relax away from the office?

Anna:  I usually go to the gym, chill with my friends, or go shopping!

IFSDG:  I-Phone or Android?

Anna:  I-Phone

IFSDG:  Favourite sport?

Anna:  Ski-ing

IFSDG:  Favourite movie?

Anna:  UP

IFSDG:  Sunshine or snow?

Anna:  Snow

IFSDG:  and finally, what three words sum you up?

Anna:  Friendly, Fun and Bubbly
