IFSDG: What is the vision for MBN Solutions in
Glasgow?
Bethany: My vision for MBN Solutions is
to make the MBN Academy known through every company in Scotland and
beyond. MBN Solutions' brand works with very high profile, cutting
edge clients and my aim is to engage the Academy with these
businesses as well as many more. The Academy is focused on
nurturing the next generation of brilliant data scientists with
innovative companies through internships.
IFSDG: What's a typical day for you?
Bethany: Providing guidance to students
and helping them increase their employability skills, reading
through their documents and ensuring that everything is compliant
and makes sense.
Supporting Host Companies as they join the initiative. This may
be through phone calls, briefings or meetings.
Receiving Host Company packs and using my expertise to match up
students with suitable projects.
From here, I can be briefing students and organising interviews
etc.
Enjoying the day, working with some fab folk, all focused on
helping to make the world a better place!
IFSDG: Why did MBN Solutions choose to locate in
the IFSD in Glasgow?
Bethany: We have been in Glasgow for 12
years and have always been in the heart of the city. There is so
much buzz and excitement in Glasgow and our office is perfectly
positioned to take advantage of this.
IFSDG: Three good things about working in
Glasgow?
Bethany: The culture - everyone is
Glasgow is so welcoming and warm. The culture here is very diverse
and two days are never the same! The city is very much a mix of all
cultures, enriching our own and adding to others.
The food - you could literally eat somewhere different every day
of the week and never get bored!
The people - Glaswegians are another breed of people, warm and
welcoming.
IFSDG: What is your biggest business achievement
to date?
Bethany: I moved to France alone when I
was younger, with little knowledge of the culture or language and I
persevered to come back a year later fluent and with lots of French
friends.
IFSDG: What is the best
investment you ever made?
Bethany: Going to University and studying
abroad. I took part in an exchange Programme with the British
Council and taught English to French students for a year. This
massively increased my confidence and helped me bond with people
from different cultures. Ultimately, this paved the way to my
career path today.
IFSDG: Which businessperson or company do you most
admire and why?
Bethany: Skyscanner started off as a very
small company and now it is used as the 'unicorn example' of how to
run an extremely successful company. It is an inspiration to start
ups and has helped to spark ideas and inspire lots of people in
Scotland and internationally.
IFSDG: What did you want to be when you were a
child?
Bethany: A nurse
IFSDG: What do you do to relax away from the
office?
Bethany: I love travelling and visiting
new places. I also love cooking and trying new dishes. I adore
animals and nothing beats snuggling up with the cats after a long
day!
