Lockton Companies
LLP?
Gordon: I have been with Lockton LLP just
over 2 years.
IFSDG: How many people work at
Lockton?
Gordon: Lockton Global employ over 5600
Associates, represented in 66 offices. In Scotland, we have offices
in Glasgow and Edinburgh and currently operate with 25
Associates.
IFSDG: What is the vision for
Lockton in Glasgow?
Gordon: To be the leading Corporate
Insurance Broker by offering our clients and prospective clients
bespoke solutions for all of their insurance and risk management
requirements, thus adding value and business benefit in the spirit
of a true partnership.
IFSDG: What's a typical day for you?
Gordon: The beauty of my job is the fact
there is no typical day. It is a complete mixture of meeting
clients, attending new business presentations, engaging with
Insurers or professional connections, whilst at all times
discussing with the Lockton team ways to grow and improve our
business. This is a truly exciting time for Lockton and we look
forward to building upon the great success we have enjoyed in a
very short period.
IFSDG: Why did
Lockton choose to locate in the IFSD
in Glasgow?
Gordon: Lockton initially had only
representation in Edinburgh through our Financial Lines Division.
When the Company elected to create a corporate offering for
Scottish clients, it was deemed a natural move to open up in
Glasgow as Glasgow is the hub for the insurance market place.
Since 2014 we have also moved premises in Glasgow into our new
offices at 145 St Vincent Street, Glasgow which is an excellent
location and postcode.
IFSDG: Three good things about working in
Glasgow?
Gordon: Vibrancy of the city, the
colourful characters you meet on a regular basis and simply a great
place to do business
IFSDG: What is your biggest business achievement
to date?
Gordon: Helping create Lockton Corporate
Scotland with great support from our local team and our Executive
Board in London. Equally, the companies who have placed their trust
in Lockton to handle their Insurance & Risk Management
arrangements has been both humbling and rewarding.
IFSDG: What is the best investment you ever
made?
Gordon: Joining Lockton LLP and my
children, although perhaps not in that order!!
IFSDG: Which businessperson or company do you most
admire and why?
Gordon: Richard Branson. I admire the
fact he has encountered so much failure but regards it as a
learning experience. His tenacity and relentless desire to succeed
is simply inspiring combined with employing the right people
demonstrates you can only succeed by having the right people beside
and behind you.
IFSDG: What did you want to be when you were a
child?
Gordon: Footballer - I still think one
day I will make it!
IFSDG: What do you do to relax away from the
office?
Gordon: At my age, I still enjoy playing
football and watching the sport. Also a massive boxing fan. I also
like spending time with my 2 boys and watching them grow.
