Louise Mukherji-Powell

NFU Mutual Direct

IFSDG:  How long have you worked at NFU Mutual?

Louise: 5 ½ years

IFSDG:  How many people work at NFU Mutual?

Louise: Thousands work for the company but I work as part of the Contact Centre branch, NFU Mutual Direct, which has around 300 employees.

IFSDG:  What is the vision for NFU Mutual Direct in Glasgow?

Louise: We want to dominate in the customer experience, whilst providing a thriving city centre hub for people to develop their career with us. We want to stand out from the average call centre due to us being a Mutual company that has been around for over 100 years.

IFSDG:  What's a typical day for you?

Louise: Writing newsletters, organising events, creating presentations, meeting external stakeholders, attending strategy meetings, secretly planning flash mobs (see question about my biggest achievement)  …it's a varied job!

IFSDG:  Three good things about working in Glasgow?

Louise: The food and drink culture is one of the best in the UK

I can easily meet up with friends after work

It feels like home.

IFSDG:  What is your biggest business achievement to date?

Louise: Aside from helping lead a flash mob to Queen's "It's A Kind Of Magic" full of our management team, it would have to be seeing the steady year on year improvements in our internal communications feedback surveys. It makes me feel like we are doing a good job.

IFSDG:  What is the best investment you ever made?

Louise: Probably my kindle, as I take it everywhere with me. Reading helps me unwind...I read on the train into work/after work, on holiday, in the bath, before bed…I'd be lost without it now.

IFSDG:  Which businessperson or company do you most admire and why?

Louise: One of my favourite authors is David Baldacci, and he uses a lot of his book proceeds to run not for profit foundations that better enable children and adult literacy levels. I think it's a great example of paying it forward.

IFSDG:  What did you want to be when you were a child?

Louise: A writer - I read all 5 million of the Sweet Valley High books when I was in primary school and my mind was made up

IFSDG:  What do you do to relax away from the office?

Louise: I cook, read and go on holidays. I am travel obsessed! Luckily my husband is too or that could be awkward.

IFSDG: I-Phone or Android?

Louise: I literally switched yesterday from iPhone to Android after 8 years of loyalty

IFSDG: Favourite band?

Louise: My taste in music is so varied…I love everything from NWA to Bruce Springsteen and all that's in between. I have recently discovered a love of country music too… you probably don't want me to be in control of the music at a party!

IFSDG: Favourite sport?

Louise: I still love a game of Rounders

IFSDG: Favourite movie?

Louise: Forrest Gump

IFSDG: Sunshine or snow?

Louise: Sunshine, all day every day!

IFSDG:  …and finally, what three words sum you up?

Louise: Ask my husband
