Passenger growth at Glasgow Airport has
continued with almost 660,000 people travelling through the airport
in May 2012, 9.8% up on the same period last year.
An increase in demand for both international and domestic travel
ensured it was another busy month for Glasgow Airport which
celebrated the launch of Emirates Airline's second daily direct
flight to Dubai on Friday 1 June.
Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said:
"May was another strong month for Glasgow Airport. The continued
increase in passenger numbers underlines the progress we are making
in terms of regrowing passenger numbers and securing new
routes.
"The introduction of Emirates' second daily service to Dubai, a
route which is of vital economic importance to Scotland, provided
us with a great start to the busy holiday period, as did the launch
in May of Icelandair's inaugural flight to Denver, Colorado.
Together with Sunwing Airline's twice weekly service to Toronto,
which will get underway in June, these routes have further
strengthened Glasgow's long haul route network."
Other welcome additions in May to Glasgow Airport's list of
destinations included France Travel Services' flights to Paris,
Nantes and Lyon.
