Glasgow Reports £120 Million Conference Sales Boost

Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB) secured over £120 million new conference business in the last financial year.

Year end data reported by the city's official destination marketing organisation to March 31 revealed 278 conventions, valued at £120 million, were confirmed through to 2017, which equates to more than 410,000 hotel delegate room nights.

This represents a 10% year-on-year growth in domestic and international conference business.

Conference delegates now account for one in five hotel beds sold in the city, underscoring the importance of conventions to Glasgow's economy.

Scott Taylor, Chief Executive of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: "So many people comment that Glasgow is unique in its welcome. As well as it being in our nature, much of this comes from the relationship we have with our city partners and our ability to engage them in conference activity."

GCMB was recently named the UK's Best Convention Bureau for an incredible sixth consecutive year, following a poll by the influential industry magazine Meetings & Incentive Travel. The Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre picked up the Best UK Conference Centre title.
