Great News on Glasgow Hotels

18th April 2011

Blythswood Square is the first hotel in Glasgow to receive the coveted Five Stars from the AA.

The award recognises all areas of the business from front of house to the more operational day-to-day running of the 100 room hotel.  A spokesman for the AA Hotel Services said: 'This award recognises the hotel's consistent excellence across all standards of operation, including housekeeping, service and hospitality."

And, one of the city's newest hotels, the 198 bedroom CitizenM, on Renfrew Street, was named 'New Hotel of the Year' at last month's Scottish Hotel of the Year Awards, missing out narrowly on the overall award for 'Scotland's Top Hotel'.

Other Glasgow winners include the Grand Central Hotel at Central Station voted 'Glasgow Hotel of the Year' and its chef James Murphy who won 'Executive Chef of the Year'.

'Restaurant Manager of the Year' went to Alan Brady of Michael Caines of Abode.

News of these prestigious awards co-incided with publication of Hotel Britain 2011, the annual report from accountants PKF. This revealed that while the overall UK figure for revenue generated per hotel room had declined by 2.3% over the past four years, the figure for Glasgow hotels had improved by 0.5%.
