Michelle Sneyd

Senior Health & Safety Consultant, FD People

The most satisfying thing about my job is .... supporting clients to manage their health & safety risks in a practical and realistic way. Seeing them develop and implement change is very rewarding.

The misconception about my role I would most like to change is .... that managing safety creates extra work and especially paperwork.

The career achievement I am most proud of is .... developing and maintaining my career and balancing it with running a home and, with my husband, bringing up 4 children.

The most important career advice I would give to my younger self is .... there's no rush, the right role will reveal itself. You don't have to be in your dream job before you're 30.

My favourite part of Glasgow is .... House for an Art Lover - great food and I'm a big Charles Rennie Mackintosh fan.

The city that reminds me most of Glasgow is …. Birmingham; they're very similar in their industrial history and rebirths as cultural centres, both second cities, both have been misrepresented in the past as unpleasant places, which was always untrue.

Outside of work, I am passionate about .... walking, especially in the islands and spending time with my granddaughter, Ada.

My best tip to achieve a better work/life balance is .... decide some core hours and stick to them. Switch off/ put away your work phone outside of those hours.

Favourite band - Too many, but Thin Lizzy, Depeche Mode, U2, Manic Street Preachers & Muse.

Favourite author - Jasper Fforde, a fantasy writer whose stories are set in the book world.

Favourite podcast - The White Vault - a brilliant horror podcast, and The Lovecraft Investigations - a modern take on HP Lovecraft.

And, finally, what three words best sum you up?

Pragmatic, friendly, rock-chick.

My kids would say professional, fruitloop!
